Welcome to my Wheely Big Bike Trip.

Welcome to my new blog, dedicated to my upcoming bicycle trip around the world. I decided to create a dedicated blog for this trip, as it would have been too cumbersome on the main blog. Of course, that blog isn’t going anywhere. It will still be used for non-Wheely Big Bike Trip posts – be it by bicycle, train, or any other mode of transport.

Why did I call it The Wheely Big Bike Trip? Once I decided to ride for an additional charity, in this case School in a Bag, I could no longer call it ‘Cycle Against the Beast’. That’s the name I gave for my bike rides for FightMND. I had to come up with a catchy new name. The Wheely Big Bike Trip was born – cycling for both FightMND and School in a Bag.

The ride will start on the shores of the Arctic Ocean, in Tuktoyaktuk – a small hamlet in the Northwest Territories of Canada. From there, it’s down through the Americas, a little bit of Africa (ie: Morocco), Europe (including Ireland & the UK), Asia and then back to Australia. I had intended on starting on the 1st of June, 2025. However, due to a few unforseen medical bills, I’ve had to delay it by six months. But that does not mean I’ll be starting in winter. I’ll now be starting on the 1st of June, 2026. However, I’ll do a five month ‘pre-ride’ from Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas to Washington, D.C. I will then probably take the train from there to Vancouver, British Columbia, and possibly fly up to Inuvik (about 100 km from Tuk).

This ride has been many years in the planning, delayed by things like Covid, blowing my own budget and a few other things. I look forward to bringing you all along for the ride.
